Currently in class we are learning about how to use lights in 3D Studio Max. A few examples of what we are learning include:
- Omni light, which can be used for candles and lightbulbs, and projects light in every direction; - Spotlight, which is exactly as it sounds; and - Direct Light, which works like a laser pointer. This subject matter is quite interesting, and I wish I was able to enjoy it more, but it is not the only thing I need to worry about. Right now, school is full of stress. There is so much competition and too many expectations on today's youth -- not giving them enough time to actually be the kids that they are. One of the most stressful things that you can go through is the constant pressure that can feel like it’s stripping you of your life and personality. One of the ways we can fix this is to be more concerned with the present and less worried about the future. If kids only care about what their future is, and have a set plan and expectations, it can be all the more devastating when their hopes and dreams aren’t what they are expecting. One of the hardest parts about all of this is that the schools often don't support the kids where they are but where they expect them to be. Keep this in mind the next time you see a peer or student, or even your child, stressed over homework and to not remind them about their future, but to be kind and help them in the moment. - 3ds Max lights is a really interesting tool. - School sometimes hurts kids and can feel like it destroys dreams. - Everyone wants to learn, but not this way. - Be kind when you see someone troubled over work.

Ive given this subject a lot of thought lately, and I have come up with a few ideas that high schools could implement to make it much better for students. (Disclaimer, this is based on my personal opinions and experiences) one thing that I think myself and many other students can agree on is that we don't have enough free time (or time to be active and ourselves) some could argue that lunch is a good opportunity to do just that, but with only 30 minutes, you have a choice to sacrifice either eating or physical activity for the other. What the schools could do is actually implement a recess of sorts into the day, even if it takes off of other classes, students mental health is very valuable, and currently, the only effort DSA has put towards keeping kids sane is a student services area, and not a good one at that. There have been multiple studies showing how important recess is for older kids as well as you. www.dsa.dpsnc.net
-schools need to get recess back in place. -schools need better councilors and support. -schools need to understand kids better. -schools need less work. Recently in class, we have started getting back into 3D modeling in Game Design. The first project we did, was that of a "romantic evening" where the class was tasked with making a selection of silverware and plates and stuff, all based on splines. however, we had only 3 days to complete all this, making something that may be a generally easy project, to a huge crunch for time and work. The project was a follow up to a refresher that was hard for me, because of an issue with the H drive on the computer. All of this has been a refresher to the class in 3Ds max, because for me, it is one of the most difficult programs I have used. app.schoology.com/assignment/1807678230/info
-We are getting back into 3D modeling. -3Ds Max is hard for me. -I am learning and this is a good refresher. -We modeled a romantic evening. I recently bought the new Destiny game, Destiny 2, because i have herd good things from my friends who play it. While still just starting, I have noticed that the mechanics are very similar to the first, including lore that is brought over and the same enemy races. The game features a collection of new weapon classes such as sub machine guns and grenade launchers that were not playable prior. When experimenting with the player versus player modes, I noticed that they are a lot more fast paced than those in the first game, with a quicker respawn time and more powerful weapons. This can be both a gift and a curse when playing but the layout encourages you to level up to get better and win more. There are a few in game purchases that come up, but they are not pushed in your face and are exclusively cosmetic, not influencing how you play the game at all. The story mode is also quite good, with a significant plot that your guardian follows and frequent well developed cutscenes. On the downside, Destiny 2 takes up a very large amount of space, that forced me to delete a few of my other games that I have had on my PlayStation. The DLCs are also very expensive, and even worse, they make the game significantly better, basically forcing the player to buy them. Overall my rating of Destiny 2 is a solid seven out of ten, purely because of its DLC and slower developmental stages.
-Destiny 2 is a good game. -I am impressed that I am able to keep my character. -I do not like how expensive the DLC is. -I am looking forward to playing more. www.bungie.net/ Another issue I happen to have with finals is that of the rules of exemption. Now, I’m not against exemption as a whole, but when the absences come into play, things start to get complicated. There is no excuse for missing school in the eyes of DPS except for being hospitalized. I am unable to be exempt from my Spanish class only due to too many absences, but 4 of them are playing off of the death of my grandfather. Sadly, if I’m not the one dying, it doesn’t matter, and I feel like I am being punished for doing the only thing i could at the time. Completely unfair, even with a high A in the class.www.dpsnc.net/Domain/47
As we near the end of the year, finals get closer and closer, and as for some this may seem like a blessing, others feel it torture. All of the classes have dropped immensely large work loads on the kids, at the same time. When preparing, kids feel obligated to give up one classes work and grade to work on another class, in a sort of moral dilemma situation. Researchers have struggled to find the main reasons for the rapid decline in mental health in today's teens, but I feel that if they only look at what we are forced to go through every day. But I feel that we can fix this by placing an educated board of teens and students in a council that gives them an equal say in the rules and projects made by the people who only have a distant view of our struggles.www.dpsnc.net/Domain/47
Finally, we have started to enter the realm of 3D modeling, opening up millions of new opportunities and ideas for the kids in our class. We are working in a program called 3Ds Max Interface, but it has a few issues. The Interface is very resource intensive, causing the entire program to crash and sometimes even delete entire projects. This problem makes the program quite difficult to work with. The first project we worked on was a snowman, just a simple buddy made of spheres and rectangular prisms, but even with the very basic layout and execution, a lot of students had problems. I am hoping to get better at 3Ds Max soon because it looks like a really cool program with a lot of potential. docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/16/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/index.html?url=files/GUID-0CAA47B5-6FDA-4402-8E37-1EDBBA077444.htm,topicNumber=d30e580935
-We started working with 3Ds Max. -3Ds Max has a few issues. -I am hoping to expand my skill set with this program. -The first project we did was a snowman. -Hopefully the problems can be fixed. This past week in Game Design, we started working on a new project... a group project. Well, not entirely, however, almost everyone decided to work in groups. Last friday, my group went out and started filming our own skit, an anti-drug psa, and to be honest, it was really fun. But on the flip side, I also think that my group is the only one who has gotten to this step, and this is concerning, seeing how the project is due this wednesday. I had the very important job of creating the graphics for the project as well as filming a majority of the film. I personally think the skit is quite funny, in an unintentional way. I can say however that I am quite excited to see everyone else's, seeing the work my team put into our project. app.schoology.com/assignment/1145533648/info
-We are doing video projects in Game Design. -My group is quite happy with its final project. -I am excited about the other peoples projects. -I was the graphic designer and photographer. We are now truly editing videos in Game Design, where we have to make thematic montages and edit a knock knock joke to be the most awkward situation possible. I have just recently completed the thematic montage and frankly, I am quite pleased with the finished product. The scene starts out in a lush, serene forest, with raindrops tumbling off of plump flowers, and beautiful, luxurious classical music. But the clip changes, and the trees and plants transfer to a new environment, a wasteland with nothing but rocks and dead shrubs, and intense bass boosted rap over the video. The theme of all of this is obviously life and death... With a secret ingredient, dank memes. Dank memes are a popular part of modern culture. They usually contain a lot of overexposure (the visual representation of bass boosted music) and significant amounts of irrelevant images. Memes are such a large part of teenage culture, that you probably cant have a conversation without a vine reference, or "inside" joke being made. They can be so absurd that you probably hear them all the time and just let it go over your head. but to sum it all up, its important to respect others, respect yourself, and have FUN! Also premiere pro is getting easier and Im looking forward to future projects.
knowyourmeme.com/ -We are working with Premiere Pro in Game Design. -I enjoy memes a lot. -You are now informed of memes. -My thematic montage is awesome. -Game Design is changing. We have just started working in Adobe Premiere Pro, and I am struggling a little bit. Personally, the videos that we have to watch as tutorials are not working for me. The project we are doing at the moment is to make a 15 second video where we show a series of photos centered around color that get progressively intense,
a fun idea, but dispite what it might seem, these photos are quite difficult to find. I personally am doing the color green, one of my favorites, and a story of creation and destruction. Not initially apparent, but the set of photos starts with a beautiful universe, a peacock, a temple, transitioning to smoke, a broken building, chirping paint from a ruin. On the other hand, the other challenge is fitting these photos into 15 seconds worth of video, and getting the right amount of screen time for each. Fortunately, we have a lot more time to work with Premiere Pro, and hopefully this will let me expand my skills to videography and editing! -We are working with Premiere Pro. -I am struggling but its fun. -The project we are working on is more difficult than you might expect. -I am proud of my color story. -Premier Pro is different than anything else we have worked with. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Premiere_Pro |
