Currently in class we are learning about how to use lights in 3D Studio Max. A few examples of what we are learning include:
- Omni light, which can be used for candles and lightbulbs, and projects light in every direction; - Spotlight, which is exactly as it sounds; and - Direct Light, which works like a laser pointer. This subject matter is quite interesting, and I wish I was able to enjoy it more, but it is not the only thing I need to worry about. Right now, school is full of stress. There is so much competition and too many expectations on today's youth -- not giving them enough time to actually be the kids that they are. One of the most stressful things that you can go through is the constant pressure that can feel like it’s stripping you of your life and personality. One of the ways we can fix this is to be more concerned with the present and less worried about the future. If kids only care about what their future is, and have a set plan and expectations, it can be all the more devastating when their hopes and dreams aren’t what they are expecting. One of the hardest parts about all of this is that the schools often don't support the kids where they are but where they expect them to be. Keep this in mind the next time you see a peer or student, or even your child, stressed over homework and to not remind them about their future, but to be kind and help them in the moment. - 3ds Max lights is a really interesting tool. - School sometimes hurts kids and can feel like it destroys dreams. - Everyone wants to learn, but not this way. - Be kind when you see someone troubled over work.

Ive given this subject a lot of thought lately, and I have come up with a few ideas that high schools could implement to make it much better for students. (Disclaimer, this is based on my personal opinions and experiences) one thing that I think myself and many other students can agree on is that we don't have enough free time (or time to be active and ourselves) some could argue that lunch is a good opportunity to do just that, but with only 30 minutes, you have a choice to sacrifice either eating or physical activity for the other. What the schools could do is actually implement a recess of sorts into the day, even if it takes off of other classes, students mental health is very valuable, and currently, the only effort DSA has put towards keeping kids sane is a student services area, and not a good one at that. There have been multiple studies showing how important recess is for older kids as well as you. www.dsa.dpsnc.net
-schools need to get recess back in place. -schools need better councilors and support. -schools need to understand kids better. -schools need less work. In reality, I have not played many video games, and even less at that; played one that has been made into a movie. However, I have played Uncharted, and the entire series is a movie in itself, full of incredibly cinematic scenes and gameplay, and an incredibly rich story in every one. Therefore, the Uncharted games could easily become a movie or even a franchise with just how many possibilities there are in the world of the game. Thinking this topic interesting, I decided to do more research and give it more thought, and discovered a few things. I learned of a full live action super Mario bros made in the 90’s. And I have to say, its one of the worst films I have seen in a long time, even though it featured big names, the classic game should have never been interpreted into anything more than what it is. Which leads me to the theory of separation in the video game movie industry, where there are those that were almost made for being a movie, and those that should never be made into anything other than themselves. A few things I noticed while watching the movie was, because the Mario bros game already has a very vague story, the movies was not better, sticking only with the characters in a setting completely alien to what we know and love from the game, already losing my interest due to what I had expected and what I received. Overall, I realized that most games are meant to stay the way they were created, but every once in a while, a little gem will come around.
staff!, Chosen by RT, et al. “Super Mario Bros.” Safe Haven (2013) - Rotten Tomatoes, www.rottentomatoes.com/m/super_mario_bros/. -I have not played enough games to see a decent movie about one. But, Uncharted is a movie in Itself and deserves to be one. -I watched the Super Mario Bros movie, and was very disappointed. Another issue I happen to have with finals is that of the rules of exemption. Now, I’m not against exemption as a whole, but when the absences come into play, things start to get complicated. There is no excuse for missing school in the eyes of DPS except for being hospitalized. I am unable to be exempt from my Spanish class only due to too many absences, but 4 of them are playing off of the death of my grandfather. Sadly, if I’m not the one dying, it doesn’t matter, and I feel like I am being punished for doing the only thing i could at the time. Completely unfair, even with a high A in the class.www.dpsnc.net/Domain/47
I love to draw. Its a well known fact, but my style changes on the regular. As someone working on starting a clothing line, this a very inconvenient trait, however, it enlightens me of all of the different views and styles that I can use in my ideas. One particularly recent style I have been into is that of caravaggio, the famous italian painter. I take his paintings, do a rough sketch, and then add surreal and different features to the preexisting sketch. I love how these turn out and hope to print some shirts with the designs on them. anyone reading this can feel free to contact me for a free t-shirt! have a great day.
-I love drawing. -I have trouble with inspiration. -I love caravaggio's style. -I want to print shirts with my designs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravaggio My overall experience with fortnite is pretty good. The gameplay is solid, with a great third person shooter open world feel. The graphics are fun and cartoonish, and the audio effects are silly. The thing that intrigues me about this game is how I manage to be so bad at it, and still love to play it! In past experiences with games I am incredibly bad at I usually end up quitting, but with fortnite, its the exact opposite. I am awful at the game, but always come back to play more. An especially neat fact about fortnite is that Epic Games is based in Cary NC, meaning that we are close to such a cool creation centre!
-Fortnite is fun. -This is probably the twentieth review of Fortnite in all of the students portfolios. -Fortnite has good gameplay. -Fortnite has cool graphics. -I am impressed by the addictive features. www.epicgames.com/ This past year in Scientific Visualization, we have been required to do regular blog posts, making them the key to success in the class. However, there is one problem. Kids are forgetting to do these reflections, and with no makeup options and missing a post is unredeemable. I personally know multiple people who are barely passing and still get all A's on their quizzes, only failing from the prioritizing of other classes homework and forgetting about the posts. This is an issue as some kids are unable to access internet from home, and get punished for it. Some kids are so overcome with stress and anxiety that they only get an hour at home to relax from work. These blog posts hurt. Not only our grades, but our mental states. Studies have actually shown that too much homework can end up taking a toll on kids health, and some mental health professionals have stated that students should not even have to feel obligated or absolutely forced to do all their homework because if that is the case, serious consequences can follow. I propose a solution. Rather than getting rid of the blog posts because the teacher needs to see our thought process and understanding of the current topic, students have an opportunity to learn from their errors, correct their blog posts, and have a chance at a fair grade. Do you agree?
- Blog posts are harmful. - Too much work can take a serious toll. - Students mental health should be valued. - Schools don't understand students. - Blog posts are much too serious. www.imgur.com/a/G6rU8 https://www.healthline.com/health-news/children-more-homework-means-more-stress-031114#3 In class at the moment we are working with color theory. But it is not as fun as it sounds. Myself, as an individual, do not own photoshop, and am not able to do some of the work at home, aside from the fact that I was away from home this past weekend. This is upsetting to me because we were given a very short amount of time to complete a very large amount of work. I am currently working on the color theory worksheets that involve photoshop as I do not have those resources available to me at the moment. If the grades are going in this following day I would consider myself screwed, as to most likely not being able to complete the 23 essays due by tomorrow night. Thank you and I hope whoever is reading this will pity my soul and take action.
