Recently in class, we have started getting back into 3D modeling in Game Design. The first project we did, was that of a "romantic evening" where the class was tasked with making a selection of silverware and plates and stuff, all based on splines. however, we had only 3 days to complete all this, making something that may be a generally easy project, to a huge crunch for time and work. The project was a follow up to a refresher that was hard for me, because of an issue with the H drive on the computer. All of this has been a refresher to the class in 3Ds max, because for me, it is one of the most difficult programs I have used. app.schoology.com/assignment/1807678230/info

I recently bought the new Destiny game, Destiny 2, because i have herd good things from my friends who play it. While still just starting, I have noticed that the mechanics are very similar to the first, including lore that is brought over and the same enemy races. The game features a collection of new weapon classes such as sub machine guns and grenade launchers that were not playable prior. When experimenting with the player versus player modes, I noticed that they are a lot more fast paced than those in the first game, with a quicker respawn time and more powerful weapons. This can be both a gift and a curse when playing but the layout encourages you to level up to get better and win more. There are a few in game purchases that come up, but they are not pushed in your face and are exclusively cosmetic, not influencing how you play the game at all. The story mode is also quite good, with a significant plot that your guardian follows and frequent well developed cutscenes. On the downside, Destiny 2 takes up a very large amount of space, that forced me to delete a few of my other games that I have had on my PlayStation. The DLCs are also very expensive, and even worse, they make the game significantly better, basically forcing the player to buy them. Overall my rating of Destiny 2 is a solid seven out of ten, purely because of its DLC and slower developmental stages.
-Destiny 2 is a good game. -I am impressed that I am able to keep my character. -I do not like how expensive the DLC is. -I am looking forward to playing more. www.bungie.net/ Before I hand started GAD, I had seen the video game world as one of play, where even the developers, just relaxed and had a lot of fun whilst making their products. I have now learned that dispite what the media tells us, the gaming industry is just as serious as any other, if not more. Last year, we went through a lot of the steps the companies go through in order to realease such great games. Like their brainstorming and pre-production processes, all the way through the design process and post-production. The industry itself can be quite cutthroat, especially with all the pressure these companies are put under not to make a crappy game. Including things like “crunch” where the teams put in a very large amount of time to perfect a game. The documents needed to be successful in the gaming industry primarily involve a cover letter, a solid resume, and most importantly, your portfolio. While in class, we have done a basic walkthrough on the cover letter and resume, but have been working on our portfolios since the beginning of last year. Tithe portfilio is such an important asset in your job hunting because of how much it can show your “employer” about your work quality, because it will most likely be the deciding factor. The worst thing you can have is a lot of experience and bad quality work in your portfolio. My portfolio consists of some of my best drawings and edits, but I would like to add some variety before October first. - I thought that game design was less serious than it is. - Game design is just as serious as any other industry. -When searching for a job in the game design industry it is important to have a good portfolio. -Contributor, Guest. “JOBS IN GAMES: Ten Tips for the Perfect Portfolio.” MCV, 4 Oct. 2012, www.mcvuk.com/development/jobs-in-games-ten-tips-for-the-perfect-portfolio. -“Creating a Winning Game Industry Art Portfolio.” Gamasutra Article, www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/165645/creating_a_winning_game_industry_.php -“The World's Leading Games Industry Website.
