My experience in GAD was, to put it simply, quite the experience. I think overall I learned the most in this class out of all that i have taken, and despite it being my lowest grade, I believe it benefited me the most as well. My main takeaways from this class are those surrounding the use of 3Ds Max and design principals and such, and with this I feel as though I have the knowledge needed to pursue a career in this field. We learned how to be professional in the creative workplace as well as subjects surrounding advanced modeling techniques, lighting, mapping, cameras, and rigging. I believe that this class itself is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had, due to the rich amount of knowledge and wisdom I have gained while in it. I have not only grown as a digital creative, but also as a person. Learning how to balance my time effectively, be organized in the digital world, and use the skills acquired to make my visions and ideas a reality, and will recommend this class to anyone even somewhat interested in the many topics it covers. But not only was this class beneficial in the sense that I was able to learn what I needed to make art, but I learned one of the most important skills of all. I learned how to fail. In such a competitive world and society, not enough people know what it feels like to not succeed in a class. They are so used to getting straight A's and being top of the class honors students, they almost completely give up or back out when faced with a challenge they know they are unable to complete as well as they wish. I'm not saying that this class is impossible, but it is incredibly difficult to get a 100 in, especially given the harsh grading and limited resources, but despite all this, I believe this class set me up for life better than any others in my entire experience as a student, and will use the website skills and knowledge of the design process in future projects, as well as having already used my skills on how to write a professional resume to get a job. Thank you Mr. B, I really appreciate your class and truly believe that more teachers and even schools overall can learn from how you structure your class.

As we near the end of the year, finals get closer and closer, and as for some this may seem like a blessing, others feel it torture. All of the classes have dropped immensely large work loads on the kids, at the same time. When preparing, kids feel obligated to give up one classes work and grade to work on another class, in a sort of moral dilemma situation. Researchers have struggled to find the main reasons for the rapid decline in mental health in today's teens, but I feel that if they only look at what we are forced to go through every day. But I feel that we can fix this by placing an educated board of teens and students in a council that gives them an equal say in the rules and projects made by the people who only have a distant view of our struggles.www.dpsnc.net/Domain/47
Currently in class we are learning about how to use lights in 3D Studio Max. A few examples of what we are learning include:
- Omni light, which can be used for candles and lightbulbs, and projects light in every direction; - Spotlight, which is exactly as it sounds; and - Direct Light, which works like a laser pointer. This subject matter is quite interesting, and I wish I was able to enjoy it more, but it is not the only thing I need to worry about. Right now, school is full of stress. There is so much competition and too many expectations on today's youth -- not giving them enough time to actually be the kids that they are. One of the most stressful things that you can go through is the constant pressure that can feel like it’s stripping you of your life and personality. One of the ways we can fix this is to be more concerned with the present and less worried about the future. If kids only care about what their future is, and have a set plan and expectations, it can be all the more devastating when their hopes and dreams aren’t what they are expecting. One of the hardest parts about all of this is that the schools often don't support the kids where they are but where they expect them to be. Keep this in mind the next time you see a peer or student, or even your child, stressed over homework and to not remind them about their future, but to be kind and help them in the moment. - 3ds Max lights is a really interesting tool. - School sometimes hurts kids and can feel like it destroys dreams. - Everyone wants to learn, but not this way. - Be kind when you see someone troubled over work. Do you remember when you were in first grade, and you had the project where you make a cube out of paper? It started off resembling a cross, but when folded up, it became a perfect box. That is what UVW mapping and unwrapping is, except much more complicated. You must map out an entire object, one that, at times, has an almost unholy amount of faces and polygons. In class we have been working on these and to be quite honest they are very difficult. It is very hard to perfectly line up the image to the polygons. Our current projects have all been centered around UVW, including but not limited to, a soda can, a robot, a wall, and more. I have thoroughly enjoyed this new type of modeling and think it is much more useful than any of the other material editors and such. I am grateful to have learned it.
-I have learned UVW mapping. -UVW unwrapping also exists. -I think its better than the other materials. -I will definitely use it more often. I got this game for Christmas last year, and to be honest I haven’t stopped playing it. The game is based all around World War II, as sort of a obligatory sequel to their Battlefield 1, which came out two years ago. Battlefield V is fairly new, having it released in the winter of 2018. In terms of the graphics, I think they are some of the best i have ever seen, and even rival Uncharted in the beauty of the game, wether it be in cutscenes, story mode, or PVP. The story mode is also quite interesting because it goes over quite a few famous missions, battles and pivotal points during the war, allowing you to play these out. Another cool aspect of the game is the historical accuracy, with the exact weapons, vehicles, cities, and functionality of said technology. I love the PVP parts of the game as well, that include vehicles, a capture the point style, a conquest style, and even a battle royale mode that has been teased recently, with a map that is ten times the size of the games largest map, one that is already gaining attention for its vastness. However, one of my complaints for Battlefield V is that it does not have the same flashy Easter eggs seen in the other battlefield games. I really hope that will change.
-I rate Battlefield V 4.5 stars. -I think it is one of the better games out there. -The historical accuracy is very impressive. -The graphics are some of the best. Previously in this unit, we have covered everything about textures, shaders, and materials. But now we are working with UVW mapping, and it's quite the change.
We have gone over all sorts of things with UVW mapping and all others, but I have grown a lot in this genre and know (to an extent) what I am doing. For me, the most difficult part of mapping was that of the trimming to fit into size and adjusting the model to fit the map. What surprised me the most about working with them was how big of a change it made for how good my models looked. -I have had a big change in my understanding of modeling. -I am working with UVW mapping. -I am learnig. New things every day. -I am happy with how my models look with UVW mapping. I can proudly say that I have been in the game design class at DSA, and have been working with 3Ds Max for about a year. Therefore, I consider myself relatively experienced with the software. Upon some reflection, I have pulled a few tools that I believe give me the most creative freedom, or can do things that no other modifier or tool can. This list includes but is not limited to, the NURBS, Boolean, and Edit Poly. something that makes using NURBS so special is that it works as if you are making a drawing 3D. I love the Boolean tools because of how much easier that they make your project, but finally, I love how many things I can do with edit poly, the entire thing is just essential to almost everything that I do.
Overall, when learning 3Ds Max, I recommend learning these three things first. To start off, I’d alike ton say that overall, I feel very lucky to have this opportunity at my school and will most definitely continue this pathway; however, the projects can be particularly challenging to me at times. One instance of this is the project titled “Roll the Dice”. I had a very difficult time completing it and only recently finished. My main struggles with this project in itself was not that it was particularly hard, but the challenge was the commitment to finishing it, seeing how it is very time consuming and quite repetitive. When I do projects like this, I get distracted easily; so naturally, I moved on to the next project. Currently, I am still behind, but coming closer to being up to date with every day in class. Regarding simulations, I explored a few of the modifiers that we could use, and to be quite frank, I’m kind of conerned for the time I reach them, especially since some of my peers are having so many issues with theirs. But the individual modifiers put into the simulations are very cool and very fascinating. Especially the cloth and explosion/ breaking ones. I believe that with enough practice i could, without a doubt, make amazing things with these tools.
app.schoology.com/assignment/1930282807/info -I have fallen behind a little bit in class. -The dice project gave me some problems. -I am recovering. -The simulations will be very useful. -I am looking forward to learning them. Ive given this subject a lot of thought lately, and I have come up with a few ideas that high schools could implement to make it much better for students. (Disclaimer, this is based on my personal opinions and experiences) one thing that I think myself and many other students can agree on is that we don't have enough free time (or time to be active and ourselves) some could argue that lunch is a good opportunity to do just that, but with only 30 minutes, you have a choice to sacrifice either eating or physical activity for the other. What the schools could do is actually implement a recess of sorts into the day, even if it takes off of other classes, students mental health is very valuable, and currently, the only effort DSA has put towards keeping kids sane is a student services area, and not a good one at that. There have been multiple studies showing how important recess is for older kids as well as you. www.dsa.dpsnc.net
-schools need to get recess back in place. -schools need better councilors and support. -schools need to understand kids better. -schools need less work. In reality, I have not played many video games, and even less at that; played one that has been made into a movie. However, I have played Uncharted, and the entire series is a movie in itself, full of incredibly cinematic scenes and gameplay, and an incredibly rich story in every one. Therefore, the Uncharted games could easily become a movie or even a franchise with just how many possibilities there are in the world of the game. Thinking this topic interesting, I decided to do more research and give it more thought, and discovered a few things. I learned of a full live action super Mario bros made in the 90’s. And I have to say, its one of the worst films I have seen in a long time, even though it featured big names, the classic game should have never been interpreted into anything more than what it is. Which leads me to the theory of separation in the video game movie industry, where there are those that were almost made for being a movie, and those that should never be made into anything other than themselves. A few things I noticed while watching the movie was, because the Mario bros game already has a very vague story, the movies was not better, sticking only with the characters in a setting completely alien to what we know and love from the game, already losing my interest due to what I had expected and what I received. Overall, I realized that most games are meant to stay the way they were created, but every once in a while, a little gem will come around.
staff!, Chosen by RT, et al. “Super Mario Bros.” Safe Haven (2013) - Rotten Tomatoes, www.rottentomatoes.com/m/super_mario_bros/. -I have not played enough games to see a decent movie about one. But, Uncharted is a movie in Itself and deserves to be one. -I watched the Super Mario Bros movie, and was very disappointed. |
